Hua “William” Wen is the Director of Sustainable Cities Program at WRI China’s Sustainable Transition Center. He leads a multidisciplinary team to support policy makers and urban practitioners to better balance low-carbon transition with social and economic considerations in the race to net zero.

Prior to this role, William led the Energy Transition team at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where he collaborated with Chinese partners to strategize and implement research projects to raise climate ambition, phase down fossil fuels, and shift to a green economy in China's top coal-consuming provinces and cities. Before that, he worked with the World Resources Institute for another nine years, conducting cross-cutting research on the water-energy nexus, climate preparedness, and market-based mechanisms.

William holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Southwest China University and an MPA from the University of Maryland.
